BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Western Washington University women's basketball team remained No.9 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association/USA Today/ESPN/NCAA Division II Coaches' Poll released today.
The 11-1 Vikings stayed ninth for the second straight week after extending their winning streak with a pair of road victories last week, defeating Western Oregon, 59-50, and nipping Humboldt State, 82-80. They lead the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings at 4-0.
Besides Western, two other West Region teams are ranked. Chico State (9-2) remained No.12 and Cal State Bakersfield (10-1) improved four spots to No.19. Defending West Regional champion Seattle Pacific, which was No.3 in the preseason ranking, dropped out of the poll after being No.25 last week.
The Vikings have been in every WBCA Poll this season, being as high as No.7.
Defending national champion Washburn KS (14-0) again tops the poll with 22 first-place votes. North Dakota (18-0), which remained No.2, received the other two first-place votes.
Western entertains Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday (7 p.m.) and Alaska Anchorage on Saturday (7 p.m.) in a pair of GNAC counters on Haggen Court at Carver Gym.
