BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University forward Sydney Donaldson has been named the Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 5-11.
Donaldson, a 6-foot junior from Edmonds (graduate of Edmonds-Woodway High School), had the finest performances of her collegiate career in leading the Vikings to wins over Central Washington, 71-64, and nationally No.18-ranked Northwest Nazarene, 81-68. She finished with 36 points, 24 rebounds, nine steals and nine blocked shots in the two games as WWU ran its home court winning streak to 24.
Donaldson had a career-high 21 points on 8-of-10 field-goal shooting, nine rebounds, five assists and five blocks in the victory over Central Washington. Against Northwest Nazarene, she scored 15 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds.
Her double-double versus Northwest Nazarene was the first by a Viking this season.
Donaldson entered the games averaging 5.0 points and 4.5 rebounds.
WWU, 7-6 overall and 3-2 in GNAC action, is on the road this week for games against Western Oregon on Thursday (7 p.m.) and conference-leading Saint Martin's on Saturday (7 p.m.).
