WWU's Corinn Waltrip named Red Lion/GNAC Co-Player of the Week

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University guard Corinn Waltrip has been named the Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball co-Player of the Week for Jan. 13-19. The weekly honor is the second for Waltrip. Waltrip, a senior from Tigard, Ore. (graduate of Tigard High School), scored 35 points including a career-high 24 in the Vikings' 78-76 home win against Montana State Billings on Saturday. She made 11-of-24 shots including 9-of-17 from beyond the arc, and had eight assists in the two games, the other a 61-44 triumph over Seattle Pacific. Waltrip is averaging 10.5 points per game, shooting 43.1 percent (31-of-72) from 3-point range and 80.6 percent (25-of-31) at the free-throw line. Waltrip, who was a preseason GNAC all-star pick, earned second-team honors last season and has been named to four all-tournament teams. She also is a two-GNAC academic all-star. WWU, off to a 13-2 start and ranked No.8 nationally, is atop the league standings at 7-0 and riding a seven-game winning streak. Waltrip shared the GNAC POW honor with Central Washington forward Jasmine Parker. WWU is on the road to face Central Washington on Thursday, Jan. 24 (7 p.m.) and Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Jan. 26 (7 p.m.) in a pair of GNAC counters. |
