Five Vikings Named to GNAC All-Academic Team

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Five Western Washington University women’s basketball team student-athletes have been named to the 2017 Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, announced Tuesday by the conference office.

Senior forward Rachel Albert (Bellingham, WA/Sehome), senior guard Aleisha Hathaway (Spokane, WA/Shadle Park), senior guard Taylor Peacocke (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor), sophomore guard Amanda Lance (Buckley, WA/White River) and senior guard Jessica Valley (Lafayette, IN/Nova Southeastern) were each honored as members of the GNAC Women’s Basketball All-Academic Team.

Albert, Hathaway and Peacocke became three-time members of the GNAC All-Academic Team. The three were part of a group of eight GNAC student-athletes to become three-time members out of 55 total honorees on the 2017 All-Academic Team. The three are also the fourth, fifth and sixth players in WWU women’s basketball history to become three-time All-Academic Team honorees. Valley, a transfer, and Lance, a sophomore, were each honored for the first time in their first year eligible for selection.

Student-athletes named to GNAC All-Academic teams must be in their sophomore year of eligibility or greater and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.

No. 10/17 WWU (21-3, 15-1 GNAC) hosts No. 20/25 Simon Fraser on Tuesday night at 7 pm before traveling to Montana State Billings for a game on Thursday night (7:30 pm MT/6:30 pm PT). The Vikings are on a 15-game winning streak, tied for the 4th-longest active streak in NCAA Division II and also tied for the 4th-longest streak in program history.  

The Vikings are currently in second place in the GNAC standings, one game back of No. 2/2 Alaska Anchorage, with four regular season conference games remaining before the GNAC Tournament. The conference tournament will be held at Saint Martin’s University from March 2-5 in Lacey, Wash.
