Aug. 29, 2009
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University women's basketball junior guard Megan Pinske has been added to the roster of the 2009 Canadian Senior National Team that will be traveling to Cuiaba, Brazil, to compete in the FIBA Americas Championship in late September. Pinske, who is from Coquitlam, B.C., has had extensive national team experience. She was practicing with the Canadian team this summer, and gained a spot on the roster when another player was injured. Canada will travel to play the Brazilian National Team on Sept. 17 and 18, then compete in the FIBA Americas Championship on Sept. 23-27. Also participating in that tournament are Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. "What a great opportunity and experience it's going to be for her," said Western coach Carmen Dolfo, who grew up in Penticton, B.C. "I understand that it had to do a lot with her work ethic, which has always been outstanding." After sitting out a year following a transfer from University of British Columbia, Pinske saw action in 21 games for the Vikings last season, helping them to a berth in the West Regional of the NCAA Division II National Tournament. She made 13 starts, averaging 4.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists. The 20-year-old Pinske played on the Canadian U21 National Team that placed sixth at 2007 FIBA World Championships held at Moscow, Russia. She also was a member of Canadian Junior Women's National Team that finished second at the 2006 FIBA Americas Qualifying Tournament at Colorado Springs, Colo., the Canadian Young Women's National Team that placed third at the 2006 FIBA Americas Qualifying Tournament at Mexico City, Mexico, and the Canadian U18 Junior National Team that competed at the 2005 USA Basketball Youth Development Festival in Colorado Springs, Colo. |
