Summers granted additional year by NCAA
Sept. 15, 2009
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Forward Jessica Summers has been granted an additional year of eligibility by the NCAA and will return to play on the Western Washington University women's basketball team for the 2009-10 season. Summers, a graduate of Blaine High School, was granted the year of eligibility under a "Season of Competition - Eligible" waiver. The additional year replaces the 2006-07 season in which she saw limited action. "We are thrilled that Jessica has another season with us," said Western coach Carmen Dolfo. "She is not only a great player, but a very hard worker with a deep passion for the game." Summers averaged 12.4 points and team-high 7.9 rebounds last season for the Vikings. She earned second-team all-Great Northwest Athletic Conference honors and was named GNAC co-Newcomer of the Year after transferring from University of Idaho. Summers is the second Viking to be granted an additional year of eligibility by the NCAA for the 2009-10 season. This spring, center Krystal Robinson was given a sixth year of eligibility after having two seasons cut short by knee injuries. |
