Women's Rowing Moves Up To No. 3 in National Poll

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – For the third consecutive week, the Western Washington University women’s rowing team has jumped a spot in the USRowing/CRCA NCAA Division II Poll, checking in at No. 3 in the May 9 edition of the national coaches poll.
WWU has had a strong second half of the 2018 regular season, including a 1st-place finish by the fours and a 3rd-place finish by the eights at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships.
The final regular-season edition of the coaches poll is filled with West Region teams, including No. 1 Central Oklahoma, No. 3 WWU, No. 5 UC San Diego, No. 6 Humboldt State and No. 7 Seattle Pacific.
The Vikings were listed No. 2 in final edition of the NCAA Division II West Region rankings, with the fours holding the top spot after their gold-medal performance at the WIRA Championships.
Western, the 2017 NCAA Division II national champion, will now wait for the NCAA Division II Rowing Championships Selection Show that will air on Monday, May 14 at 2 pm PT on NCAA.com.

REGIONAL RANKINGS
The Vikings are listed No. 2 in the final installment of the NCAA Regional Rankings that were announced on Tuesday, May 1. The fours took over the top spot in the West Region after winning the gold medal at WIRA (moved up from No. 3), with the eights taking over the second position (up from No. 5). The regional rankings decide the teams that will make up the NCAA Championships field, with the top regionally-ranked team from the East, South and West automatically qualifying an Eight and Four to the championships, with one at-large team selected. Two at-large eights will also be selected from any of the three regions. The NCAA Division II selection show will be held on Monday, May 14 at 2 pm PT on NCAA.com. WWU has competed in the NCAA Championships in 16 of the last 17 seasons.

WWU Rowing is one of the elite collegiate rowing programs in the country, having won 8 NCAA Division II National Championships. The Vikings are the defending national champions after winning the 2017 NCAA II title and have competed in the NCAA Championships in 16 of the last 17 seasons. Western won an unprecedented 7 consecutive national championships from 2005-2011, and placed among the top three nationally each season from 2002 to 2014 with the Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+ reaching the grand finals every time during this stretch.
