VALLEJO, Calif. - Kristen Hansen (So., Spokane/Mead) led the Vikings for the fifth time in six tournaments this season, tying for eighth place as Western Washington University finished third among 12 teams at the Cal State East Bay Women's Golf Pioneer Shootout which ended Sunday at the Hiddenbrooke Golf Club.

Hansen had rounds of 82 and 79 for a score of 17-over par 161.

WWU, which shot 321, the second-best score of the final round, had a 36-hole total of 654.

Host CSUEB shot 310, the lowest round of the tourney, for a winning score of 633. That was 11 strokes better than runner-up Chico State (325=644), ranked No.20 nationally in the latest Golf World/Women's Golf Coaches Association NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll.

The Vikings' Anna Bourland (Jr., Bainbridge) tied for 13th at 164 (84), Emily Koryto (So., East Lansing, MI) tied for 17th at 167 (81), Brooke Branigan (Fr., Bellingham) tied for 19th at 168 (84) and Audrey Orem (Fr., Bellingham) placed 25th at 169 (78).

CSUEB's Linda Brown took medalist honors at 2-over 146 (70), eight shots better than two players who tied for second at 154. Saturday's opening-round was not completed until early Sunday morning because of darkness.

WWU next competes at the Western New Mexico University Spring Invitational on March 30-Apr. 1 at Goodyear, Arizona.
