AUSTIN, Texas - Western Washington University had its tournament winning streak snapped at three, placing fifth among 17 teams at the St. Edward's University Women's Golf Invitational Tournament which ended Tuesday at the Grey Rock Golf Club.

The Vikings, ranked No.15 in the latest Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association/NCAA Division II Coaches Top 25, shot a final-round 334 for a 36-hole total of 679.

The University of Texas junior varsity hung on to take the title with a score of 649 (318), three strokes better than runner-up and nationally No.5-rated Tarleton State (317=652). Host St. Edward's was third at 662 (327) and Southwestern shot 320 to move into fourth at 677.

"Yesterday, it was pretty easy to blame it on the conditions, but today we just didn't play very well," said Western coach Bo Stephan. "If there was a bright point, it was that we hung on and beat a couple of teams that we needed to (for the regional rankings) and that helped us. But it's going to be back to the drawing board when we get back to Bellingham and get things figured out."

The Vikings were led by Allison Gillette (Sr., Seattle/Ballard) (82) and Catherine Kim (Sr., Bellevue/Skyline) (81), who each had a two-round score of 168. Kaitlin Parker (Jr., Marysville/Marysville-Pilchuck) finished at 169 (84), followed by Breanna Carmichael (So., Tacoma/Bellarmine Prep) at 174 (87) and Lianne Matkin (So., Spokane/Northwest Christian) at 180 (88).

Southwestern's Kristen Davenport (78) took medalist honors at 15-over 157. Western next competes at the Grand Canyon University Invitational on March 24-25.
