GOODYEAR, Ari. - Western Washington University moved up one spot to place eighth among 18 teams at the seventh annual Grand Canyon University Women's Golf Invitational which ended Tuesday at the Palm Valley Golf Course. Western, ranked No.19 in the latest Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association Top 25, shot 315, four strokes better than Monday's round, for a 36-hole total of 634. Cal State Monterey Bay won the tourney by 16 strokes with a two-day score of 608 (308). Ten strokes separated the next seven teams. "For awhile I thought we had a good thing going today," sand Western coach Bo Stephan. "Then we faltered in the middle of the round before coming back to play decent over the last few holes. "I believe that we're right on the bubble regionally and we're really going to have to focus on our last regular-season tournament which is a big event for us. We need to play some good golf." The Vikings' Sophie Elstrott (Fr., Eugene, OR/South Eugene) tied for ninth in medalist play at 154, shooting a final-round 78. That was her second straight top 10 finish and the third this season.
