Western Washington University's Claire Rachor (Jr., Bellingham) tied for eighth place in medalist play and the Vikings finished sixth in the team standings at the Tarleton State University Invitational Women's Golf Tournament which ended Tuesday at the Harbor Lakes Golf Club.
The Vikings, ranked No.17 in the latest National Golf Coaches Association/NCAA Division II Top 25, had a 36-hole total of 617 after a final-round 312.
Host and No.5-rated Tarleton State moved up one spot to take top honors in the 14-team field at 589 (292). No.12 Midwestern State TX was second, four strokes back, at 593 (295), and first-round leader St. Edward's TX, ranked No.3, was third at 594 (298).
Rachor shot 76 to tie for eighth at 149. Tarleton State's Sharon Lau (71) tied for medalist honors at 142 with St. Edward's Wallis Spears (69), Lau winning the playoff.
The Vikings' Kara Zitzman (Jr., Woodinville/Redmond) tied for 21st at 153 (77), Alex Taylor (Sr., Sammamish/Eastlake) tied for 28th at 157 (80), Sophie Elstrott (Sr., Eugene, OR/South Eugene) tied for 49th at 165 (86) and Brittany Wilcox (Sr., Spokane/Mead) tied for 59th at 168 (79).
WWU competes in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship on Apr. 23-24 at Coeur d'Alene, Id. (Coeur d'Alene Resort).
