BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Kelly White (Jr., Monroe) and Katja Trygg (Fr., Bainbridge Island) each shot 5-over par 78, helping nationally ranked Western Washington University defeat Chico State University, 321 to 327, in a women's golf dual match Sunday at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club.

The Vikings, No.6 in the latest Golfstat/NCAA Division II national rating, are undefeated in five dual matches this season.

"For our first competition in three weeks, I'm not disappointed at all," said Western coach Dean Russell. "It was a good dual win."

Candice Wagner (R-Fr., Milton) shot 82 for the Vikings, Sarah Cooper (Jr., Marysville/Archbishop Murphy) 83 and Milena Jankovich (Sr., Mercer Island) 87.

Chico State was led by Shelbie Jasper, who shot 79. Completing the Wildcats' scores were Arika Tobin 80, Alicia Ambrosini 83, Michelle Merriman 85 and Kelly Macy 89.

Competing as individuals for Western were Emily Balch (Fr., Everett/Kamiak) 85, Kate Menlove (So., Bellevue/Interlake) 86 and Shannon Fitzpatrick (Sr., Puyallup/Franklin Pierce) 90.

Western hosts its own Viking Invitational on Monday (7:30 a.m.) and Tuesday (7:30 a.m.) at the BG&CC. The four participating teams are Chico State, Montana State University-Billings, University of Victoria and Western. Saint Martin's College also is sending two players.
