NCAA II Women's Golf Regional - First Round Results

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Western Washington University junior golfer Jenn Paul is tied for 20th place after the first round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf West Regional played at Wichita Falls Country Club.

Paul (Bellingham, WA) is one of six individuals playing in the regional after the Vikings narrowly miss qualifying for the 12-team regional. The three-time All-GNAC selection opened the 54-hole tournament with a 5-over-par 77 on the par 72, 6,149-yard layout.

The junior was at one-over-par after the first 9 holes after opening her round with seven consecutive pars. Paul bogeyed the eighth hole, but rebounded with a par on the 382-yard, par 4 9th hole to turn in a front-nine 37.

After making a double-bogey on the 10th hole, Paul bounced back to play the final eight holes at 2-over-par. She birdied the 330-yard, par 4 16th hole.

“Jenn started out really well, but she had a hiccup on the 10th hole and a few other bogeys down the stretch that cost her,” said head coach Bo Stephan. “The course got toucher as the wind picked up.”

Ana Sofia Benavides (St. Edward’s), Mattye Mason (West Texas A&M) and Hanna Harrison (Dallas Baptist) are in a three-way tie for individual medalist honors after shooting 1-over-par 73 on Monday. West Texas A&M holds the team lead at 9-over-par (297), four strikes better than 2nd-place St. Edward’s and Dallas Baptist. GNAC representative Simon Fraser is tied for 10th place at +30 (318).

Paul will be in the first pairing in Tuesday’s second round teeing off at 8:30 am CT.
