BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University women’s golf team is in 8th place after the first round of the WWU Invitational played Monday at Bellingham Golf & Country Club.
The Vikings concluded the first 18 holes with a combined team scored of 27-over-par (319) on the par 73 layout. Simon Fraser (+11, 303) and British Columbia (+15, 307) are first and second in the 14-team field, followed closely by Montana State Billings (+17, 309).
Western sophomore Stephanie Sewell (Kent, WA/Kentridge) is tied for 10th in the 73-player field firing a 4-over-par 77 in Monday’s first round. Junior Jenn Paul (Bellingham, WA) and sophomore Hannah Drake (Pocatello, ID/Century) are tied for 32nd with matching first-round scores of 7-over-par 73.
“We didn’t play especially great today, but tomorrow’s a new day,” said head coach Bo Stephan. “There are a lot of teams packed closely together and it should make for a pretty interesting final round.”
Montana State Billings freshman Sammy Walter fired a career-best 1-under-par 72 to lead the tournament field by one strike. Ebba Moberg of Northeastern State is one back after carding an even-par 73.
The 36-hole tournament concludes Tuesday morning with a shotgun start at 9 am.
