BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Led by sophomore Stephanie Sewell, the Western Washington University women’s golf team finished in 4th place at the WWU Invitational played Monday and Tuesday at Bellingham Golf & Country Club.
The Vikings moved up from 8th place after the first 18 holes to 4th place in the tournament with a final round score of 303, a 16-shot improvement from Monday. Sewell (Kent, WA/Kentridge) tied for 5th in the 73-player field finishing the 36-hole tournament at 5-over-par 151 on the par 73 layout.
Simon Fraser won the team title with a 24-over-par 608, followed by British Columbia (+29, 613) and Northeastern State (+34, 618).
Junior Jenn Paul (Bellingham, WA) shot a 1-over-par 74 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 12th place at 8-over-par (154) for the tournament. Paul has finished in the top 20 in all three of her tournaments this fall.
Senior Audrey Orem (Bellingham, WA) tied for 28th at 13-over-par (159), while senior Brooke Branigan (Bellingham, WA) tied for 38th (+16, 162) and sophomore Hannah Drake tied for 47th (+18, 164). Sophomore Nicole Miller (Renton, WA/Kennedy) played as an individual and tied for 63rd at 24-over-par (170).
British Columbia’s Kat Kennedy and Montana State Billings’ Sammy Walter tied for individual honors finishing the tournament at even par (146). Kennedy won the scorecard playoff recording the lower second round with a 2-under-par 71 on Tuesday.
The Vikings return to action next week traveling the Sonoma State Fall Invitational played at Foxtail North Golf Club in Rohnert Park, California.
