Women's Golf Opens 2017-18 Season in Colorado

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The Western Washington University women's golf team will open the 2017-18 season Monday at the Skyhawk West Regional Preview played Monday and Tuesday at Hillcrest Golf Club in Durango, Colo.

The 36-hole tournament features a 20-team field made up of the top programs from the NCAA Division II West and South Central regions. It is a preview of the NCAA II West/South Central Super Regional that will be held May 7-9, 2018. Fort Lewis College will host the regional preview.

WWU's starting five for the tournament will be the following:

  1. Jenn Paul (Sr., Bellingham, WA)
  2. Hannah Drake (Jr., Pocatello, ID)
  3. Stephanie Sewell (Jr., Kent, WA)
  4. Annie Leete (Jr., Oak Harbor, WA)
  5. Megan Billeter (Fr., Spokane, WA)

Jenn Paul (Bellingham, WA) heads into hear senior season looking to shatter the WWU records books, as she carries a program-best career scoring average of 76.43 (+4.52 to par). She is a three-time First Team All-GNAC selection and competed as an individual at the NCAA II West/South Central Super Regional last year finishing tied for 16th. 

The Vikings are scheduled to compete in five fall tournaments, concluding with the annual WWU invitational that will be played Oct. 9-10 at Bellingham Golf & Country Club. 

2016-17 Season in Review:

Finished 2nd at the GNAC Championships for the second consecutive season, after winning five consecutive years from 2011-15…barely missed out on trip to the NCAA II West/South Central Regional in Wichita Falls, Texas…junior Jenn Paul represented the program as an individual, placing in a tie for 16th place in the 66-player field…ranked No. 41 in the final GolfStat Division II rankings…Paul and sophomore Stephanie Sewell were named First Team All-GNAC…Paul ranked 2nd in the GNAC and 98th in NCAA Division II with a scoring average of 77.30 (+5.26 relative to par)…Paul recorded 10 top 20 finishes in her 11 tournaments and tied for 3rd place at the GNAC Championships for the third consecutive season…scoring average was 7th-best in program history, but trailed her sophomore (75.47) and freshman (76.32) seasons…will head into her senior season with the program’s best career scoring average (76.43, 61 rounds, +4.52 to par)…low rounds of the season were turned in by Paul and Sewell with 1-under-par 71 in the first round of the Mustang Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz….senior Audrey Orem finished her career with an average scoring round of 80.26, 11th-best in program history (+8.34 to par)…team finished with an GNAC-leading scoring average of 316.0 (+27.80 above par average).
