Oct. 30, 2011
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University's Claire Rachor has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for Oct. 23-29. It is the second time during her three-year career that Rachor has received the weekly honor. Rachor, a junior from Bellingham (graduate of Bellingham High School), tied for medalist honors at the Sonoma State Invitational as she led the Vikings to their third straight tourney title. Rachor posted rounds of 73 and 75, finishing the fall portion of WWU's season with a 76.9 scoring average. That ranks second in the GNAC behind only the Vikings' Sophie Elstrott, who has a 75.8 average. WWU opened up a 17-stroke lead at the Sonoma State tourney and finished 11 shots ahead. Rachor also was the medalist at the Sonoma State meet as a freshman. WWU, ranked No.8 in the National Golf Coaches Association/NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, won or tied for first in the last three matches of the fall portion of its 2011-12 schedule. |
