WWU remains perfect at home with 1-0 win over MSUB

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Midfielder Delanee Nilles (So., Poulsbo/North Kitsap) scored late in the first half as nationally ranked Western Washington University remained perfect at home with a 1-0 victory over Montana State University Billings on Thursday in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer contest at Orca Field on the Whatcom CC campus.

The Vikings, ranked No.12 nationally in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America/NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll after being No.2 each of the last four weeks, improved to 13-1-0 overall and stayed atop the GNAC at 10-1-0. They are 7-0-0 at home.

MSUB, which has lost its last three games, fell to 4-7-2 overall and 3-7-1 in conference play.

Hamilton had already been a presence in the opening half, forcing a pair of difficult saves by MSUB goalkeeper Krystal Daniels.

WWU had a 13-9 advantage in shot attempts, but was outshot 6-5 in the second half. Alyssa Beauchamp (Sr., Vancouver/Mountain View) had five saves for the Vikings, who posted their ninth shutout of the year.

WWU had suffered its first loss of the season, 1-0, at Western Oregon last Saturday.

"We bounced back from the loss, which was important," said WWU coach Travis Connell (11th year, 134-60-19). "We had a lot of players contribute, including having Delanee come off the bench to score the goal."

WWU entertains Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Oct. 26 (4 p.m.), for a GNAC counter.
