THURSDAY DOUBLEHEADER…both WWU soccer teams will be in action Thursday, with the men hosting Saint Martin’s at 4 pm and the women taking on Simon Fraser starting at 7 pm…admission for the doubleheader is 2-for-1.

THE NATIONAL RANKINGS…WWU is ranked No. 1 in the latest edition of the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Poll (9/19/17)…also listed No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches West Region rankings…finished the 2016 season as the No. 1 team in the nation after winning the NCAA II National Championship…ranked No. 1 in the last 13 NCAA II polls.

THE WINNING STREAK…dating back to the start of last season, the Vikings have won their last 29 games and are undefeated in their last 30 games (29-0-1)…the 29-game winning streak is the 4th-longest winning streak in NCAA II history and the 30-game unbeaten streak is 8th-longest in NCAA II history…the 30-game undefeated streak is a GNAC record, breaking the mark of 27 by Seattle Pacific (2008-09)the program record winning streak is 38 consecutive spanning 1982-84.

PELOGI’S POINTSGabriela Pelogi has scored 15 points (6 goals, 3 assists) in the Vikings first five games of the season…recorded a hat trick in 7-1 win at Holy Names, and 7 total points adding an assist…the 7-point effort matched the best individual performance by a Viking during the GNAC era (since 2001), matching Lucy Miller’s 3-goal, assist game on Oct. 11, 2008 at Northwest Nazarene…Pelogi enters the week leading the GNAC in points (15) and goals (6), ranking 3rd in NCAA II in total points and 6th in goals scored.

WHITE TABBED AS PLAYER OF THE WEEK…forward Karli White has been named the GNAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring 2 goals, and assisting on 2 more, in the 7-0 win over Western Oregon…White is 2nd in the GNAC with 12 points (4 goals, 4 assists)…WWU has had at least one GNAC weekly award in all three weeks this season: Ashley Homer (Defense, Sept. 4-10), Gabriela Pelogi (Offense, Aug. 28-Sept. 3) and Annaliese Laurila (Defense, Aug. 28-Sept. 3).

SCORING MACHINES…the Vikings feature the top three scorers in the GNAC, with Gabriela Pelogi (1st, 15 points – 6 goals, 3 assists), Karli White (2nd, 12 points – 4 goals, 4 assists) and Liv Larson (3rd, 11 points – 4 goals, 3 assists) accounting for two-thirds of WWU’s offensive production this year (38 of 57 points)…six players have scored at least one goal, and four with multiple goals.

  • Simon Fraser → WWU leads all-time series 24-17-3…current 12-game winning streak vs. the Clan, recording a shutout in each victory (out-scored SFU 39-0)…also has a 16-game unbeaten streak (14-0-2) vs. SFU dating back to 10/25/08.
  • Saint Martin’s → WWU leads all-time series 16-2-1, with current 11-game winning streak dating back to 2011 season…out-scored Saints 30-6 during the winning streak.

2016 SEASON IN REVIEW…WWU won the NCAA Division II National Championship with an undefeated 24-0-1 record…beat three-time defending champion Grand Valley State 3-2 in the national championship game Dec. 3 in Kansas City, MO at Swope Soccer Village…opened the season with a 0-0 tie at Sonoma State, then recorded a GNAC record 24-game winning streak en route to the school’s 10th national championship…advanced to the program’s third Final Four over the last four seasons…won record fifth consecutive GNAC regular-season championship with a perfect 12-0-0 record and won third GNAC Tournament title…advanced to fifth consecutive NCAA II Tournament, posting a 100-9-7 record (.892) over this stretch, the second-best mark in Division II behind GVSU (112-7-8/.913)…finished the season ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA poll.
