BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University women's soccer freshman forward Jessica Bertucci suffered a season-ending knee injury Sept. 15 in the Vikings' contest at Saint Martin's University.

Bertucci, a graduate of Sehome High School, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee late in the first half against the Saints. She will undergo surgery on Oct. 4.

Bertucci began her WWU career in outstanding fashion, scoring three goals, two of them game winners, and being credited with one assist in her first four games. She was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

"We had high expectations for her and she was off to a great start at meeting and exceeding those expectations," said WWU coach Travis Connell. "She was really contributing to our attack."

"It was unfortunate that she had the injury, but she will recover and we're excited about her future here."

At Sehome, Bertucci was twice a first-team Class 2A all-state pick and a four-time Northwest Conference all-star.
