BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University women's soccer forward Kristin Maris has been named to the Capital One Academic Division II District 8 first team.
First-team honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced later this month. District 8 is made up of the California Collegiate Athletic Association, Great Northwest Athletic Conference and Pacific West Conference.
Maris, a junior from Issaquah (graduate of Issaquah High School), is a biology major with a 3.84 grade point average (4.0 scale).
Maris, who was earlier named a GNAC academic all-star for the second straight year, has scored a team-high eight goals this season. She also was a first-team all-league honoree on the field.
The Vikings, 16-3-0, meet Montana State Billings in the GNAC Tournament championship game Saturday (2 p.m.), Nov. 3, at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila.
