Nov. 16, 2011
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University senior defender Alicia Patten (Seattle/Holy Names) and junior goalkeeper Jamie Arthurs (Richland) were second-team picks on the Daktronics West Region Women's Soccer All-Star squad released today. The team was voted on by the region's sports information directors.
Patten, who also was a second-team pick on the team last year, and Arthurs helped the Vikings post a 0.59 goals against average and 11 shutouts, both Great Northwest Athletic Conference-leading figures.
It was the second straight year that Arthurs had a school record-tying 11 shutouts, ending the season with a scoreless streak of 476 minutes and 43 seconds. She had a NCAA Division II nationally 12th-ranked and GNAC-best 0.55 GAA, with 44 saves and a .815 save percentage.
During her three-year career, Arthurs has a 0.69 GAA and 23 shutouts. She has made 133 saves with a save percentage of .821.
Patten, who was earlier named a GNAC first-team all-star for the third straight year, finished her four-year career with five assists.
Arthurs received first-team GNAC all-star honors this fall after being a second-team pick last year. She has been the conference leader in shutouts in each of the last two seasons.
WWU, coached by Travis Connell (9 years, 101-55-19), finished 10-5-3 overall and tied for second in the GNAC at 9-4-1. The Vikings were unbeaten in their last five games (4-0-1), not allowing a goal during that stretch.
