BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Four Western Washington University women's soccer players were named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II West Region All-Star Team announced Monday.
Selected to the first-team were goalkeeper Jamie Arthurs (Sr., Richland), forward Kristin Maris (Jr., Issaquah) and defender Brina Sych (Jr., Vancouver/Union). Defender Brianna Jones (So., Bonney Lake) was picked to the second team.
Arthurs, who earned second-team honors last season, finished with a 0.39 goals against average, which ranks second nationally, and 16 shutouts, one shy of the NCAA II national record. Her save percentage of .882 ranked eighth nationally. Arthurs posted 39 shutouts during her four-year career, which tied for sixth nationally.
Maris tied for the team lead in goals with nine and was second in points (24) and assists (6).
Sych had five goals and five assists, and Jones scored three goals. They helped the Vikings allow just nine goals in 23 games, have a streak of 10 shutouts and hold opponents scoreless for 919 minutes and 29 seconds.
Named Daktronics West Region Player of the Year for the second time in three years was Cal State Stanislaus forward Karenee Demery.
WWU finished 19-4-0, the win total being a school record, and reached the championship game of the West Regional, matching the school's best NCAA post-season advancement. The Viking won both the GNAC regular season and tournament titles.
The all-star team was chosen by sports information directors at the West Region schools.
