SAND ISLAND, Hawaii - Western Washington University got two strong complete-game pitching performances and first baseman Alexie Levin (So., Everett) drove in four runs and scored three as the Vikings opened the season with a sweep of Brigham Young University Hawaii in a non-conference doubleheader Saturday at Sand Island Field.
Levin was 3-for-4 in the second game. She drove in three runs, two with a double in a four-run seventh inning, and scored two. In the first contest, Levin was 2-for-3, driving in a run and scoring one.
In the opener, WWU broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the third inning. Levin singled in the first run and Kaleigh Keating (Sr., Salinas, CA/Notre Dame Salinas) later scored on a passed ball.
Second baseman Kali Patterson (Fr., Bonney Lake) had three hits for the Vikings in the two games.
DeRosier walked two and struck out two, while Ison, who retired the first 11 batters she faced, had four strikeouts and walked two.
WWU continues its road trip with a doubleheader against University of Hawaii-Hilo on Sunday (2p.m.).
