SAND ISLAND, Hawaii - Jenna DeRosier (Sr., Kelso) gave up just two runs in pitching a complete game and third baseman Emma Blauser (So., Federal Way) highlighted a five-run, third-inning rally with a two-run single as Western Washington University won 6-2 over University of Hawaii Hilo in the opening game of a non-conference doubleheader Sunday at Sand Island Field.
The Vikings lost the nightcap, 9-4, putting their overall record at 3-1. The games were the first of the season for UHH.
DeRosier, 2-0, scattered seven hits in the first game, allowing single runs in the first and fifth innings. She struck out three and walked two.
The third inning outburst broke a 1-1 tie.
The Vikings' Autumn Isaacson (Jr., Lake Stevens) had three hits in the contest, while Kaleigh Keating (Sr., Salinas, CA/Notre Dame Salinas), Blauser and Haylee Baker (Sr., Poulsbo/Bainbridge) each had two.
In the second game, UHH took a 9-0 lead, scoring five runs in the first and four in the third.
WWU, which had 12 hits, plated three runs in the third, two on a single by Kali Patterson (Fr., Bonney Lake). The Vikings also scored a run in the fourth.
Baker had three hits, and Keating, Patterson and Jordan Walley (So., Maple Valley/Tahoma) two each.
Baker finished 5-for-6 on the day.
WWU completes its eight-game Hawaiian road trip with doubleheaders against Hawaii Pacific on Monday and Chaminade on Tuesday.
