ANACORTES, Wash. - Catcher Jackie Rothenberger (So., Coquitlam, B.C./Gleneagle Secondary) drove in three runs with a triple and a home run and pitcher Erika Quint (Sr., Silverdale/Central Kitsap) threw her third shutout of the season as nationally ranked Western Washington University blanked Western Oregon University, 8-0 in five innings, to open a four-game Great Northwest Athletic Conference series Saturday at Ault Daniels Field.

The venue was changed because of unplayable field conditions in Bellingham.

The Vikings, ranked No.17 in this week's National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll, improved to 13-1 overall and lead the conference standings at 8-1.

Western Oregon fell to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in league play.

Rothenberger, who leads WWU with a .516 batting average (16-for-31), had a run-scoring triple in the second when the Vikings scored five unearned runs. In the fourth, she smacked a two-out, two-run homer.

Quint, who allowed just one hit, an infield single in the third, improved to 9-0 with the win and lowered her earned run average to 1.43. She struck out 10 and walked two.

Quint has had 10 or more strikeouts in six games this season with a total of 87 in 54 innings pitched.

Cailin Dotlich (Sr., Sedro-Woolley/Burlington-Edison) had two hits for WWU, one a double.

Vikings' outfielder Michelle Wrigley (Sr., Bothell/Inglemoor) extended her hitting streak to 15 games, three shy of the school record, with a single in the second inning.

WWU hosts Western Oregon in a tripleheader Sunday (10 a.m.) at the same site.
