TURLOCK, Calif. - The Western Washington University softball team takes a perfect 5-0 record into bracket play Sunday after blanking Cal State East Bay, 5-0, and edging Chico State, 5-3, in second-day action Saturday at the 13th Annual Tournament of Champions.

The Vikings, 22-9, who opened the tourney with three victories Friday, have won 11 of their last 12 decisions. They will face Sonoma State, the only team to defeat them during that stretch, on Sunday in the Gold Bracket semifinals at 12:15 p.m. with the winner advancing to the championship game against either Humboldt State or Dominican at 2:30 p.m.

Jenna DeRosier (Sr., Kelso) pitched a four-hit shutout and Haylee Baker (Sr., Poulsbo/Bainbridge) hit her sixth home run of the season in the win over Cal State East Bay.

DeRosier, who has won her last seven decisions, improved to 12-3. After working out of a first-inning jam, she retired 19 of the last 21 batters she faced.

Baker gave WWU a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a homer to left following a single by Kaleigh Keating (Sr., Salinas, CA/Notre Dame Salinas).

The Vikings scored two more in the fourth on a two-run double by Kali Patterson (Fr., Bonney Lake), and Jordan Walley (So., Maple Valley/Tahoma) singled home another run in the fifth.

Baker finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, and Emma Blauser (So., Federal Way/Todd Beamer) was 2-for-3.

A four-run fourth inning proved to be the difference for WWU over Chico State. The big hit was a two-run, bases-loaded double by Alexie Levin (So., Everett), who also had a double when the Vikings scored in the sixth.

All three of the Wildcats' runs were driven in by Desiree Gonzalez. She had a solo home run in the seventh.

WWU pitcher Shayna Adelstein (Fr., Tucson, AZ/Marana Mountain View) improved to 4-3, three of the wins coming in the tourney, as she went the distance. Chico State left 10 runners on base.
