April 26, 2007
ELLENSBURG, Wash. - First baseman Ashley Osman (Sr., Federal Way/Jefferson) drove in two runs and scored another and pitcher Jackie Quint (Sr., Silverdale/Central Kitsap) scattered six hits as Western Washington University continued its late-season push for a berth in the NCAA Division II West Regional by defeating arch-rival Central Washington University, 6-2, in the opener of a non-conference softball doubleheader Thursday at the CWU softball field.
It was the fourth straight win for the Vikings, who improved to 26-19. They have won 13 of their last 17 games after a 13-15 start. Central dropped to 21-18 with its third consecutive loss.
Osman, who was 2-for-3, had a two-run triple in the bottom of the first inning after Liza Teichler (Jr., Sammamish/Skyline) and Hannah Becker (Fr., Robstown, TX/Calallen) each singled with two outs. The triple was Osman's first in her four-year career.
In the third, Osman singled, advanced to second on a walk, went to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a sacrifice fly by Sarah McEnroe (Fr., Woodinville).
Western got three more runs in the sixth. McEnroe doubled to score Katie Barker (So., Auburn/Auburn-Riverside), who had singled. Misty Britt (Sr., Kelso/Lower Columbia CC) followed with a two-run homer, her first as a Viking.
Central picked up single runs in the third and sixth innings. In the third, Kasey Druffel, who was 2-for-3, tripled and scored on a wild pitch. In the sixth, Sara Badgley hit a solo home run, her eighth of the season.
Quint upped her record to 14-9, striking out two and walking one in the complete-game effort.
Britt was 2-for-4 and McEnroe 2-for-2, extending her hitting streak to eight games.
Badgley (9-8) got the loss for the Wildcats, giving up 10 hits in 5-2/3 innings. She walked one and struck out six.
