Western drops opener at Montana State Billings

BILLINGS, Mont. - Western Washington University committed a season-high six errors as it suffered a 5-1 loss to Montana State University Billings in the opener of a non-league softball doubleheader Sunday at Cenex Stadium.
Western fell to 22-19 with its third straight loss to the Yellowjackets. The Vikings have lost 12 of their last 18 games following a 16-7 start.
MSUB improved to 26-20. The Yellowjackets, who are 10-3 at home, have won 20 of their last 25 games after a 6-15 start.
MSUB pitcher Rebekah Tsatsa (11-8) scattered five hits, striking out four and walking one.
Western's only run came in the top of the second inning when Lisa Pendergrast (Sr., Burlington/Burlington-Edison) doubled, advanced to third on a sacrifice and scored on a sacrifice fly by Sarah McEnroe (So., Woodinville).
Just two of the five runs given up by McEnroe (4-9) were earned. She struck out seven and walked three.
MSUB scored single runs in the first, second, third, fourth and sixth innings.
Leslie Davis homered in the third and Jessica Frank and Amanda Schaapveld each had run-scoring singles in the fourth and sixth, respectively.
Franks was 2-for-3, the only player on either team to have two hits.
