Vikings sweep weekly GNAC awards

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University swept the Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball weekly awards for Feb. 6-13 as utility player Meghan Carrillo was named Player of the Week and Erika Quint earned Pitcher of the Week honors. Carrillo, a freshman from Prunedale, Calif., where she graduated from North Monterey County High School, hit .727 with eight hits in 11 at bats. She scored four runs and had seven runs batted in. Carillo posted a slugging percentage of 1.455 with three doubles, one triple and one home run. Erika Quint, a senior from Silverdale where she graduated from Central Kitsap High School, won four games, striking out 33 in 21 innings pitched. She held opponents to a .197 batting average. Western was one of just two teams to go undefeated at the Desert Stinger tournament last weekend. The 5-0 start was a school first for the Vikings. Western next plays on Feb. 25 and 26, beginning Great Northwest Athletic Conference action at home with doubleheaders against Northwest Nazarene University. |
