April 13, 2009
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University's Sarah McEnroe has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball Pitcher of the Week for Apr. 5-11.
McEnroe, a junior from Woodinville, pitched just the second perfect game in school history Friday, retiring all 15 batters she faced in a 10-0, five-inning victory over Northwest Nazarene. The Crusaders were unable to get a ball out of the infield against McEnroe, nine being retired on ground outs, three on popups and three on strikeouts.
In the Vikings' four-game sweep of NNU, McEnroe threw 10 scoreless innings and allowed just three hits in earning two victories. She did not walk a batter and struck out six in the two contests.
McEnroe's gem was just the fifth perfect game and 17th no-hitter in GNAC history.
Western's only other perfect game was thrown by Sarah Diamond, a seven-inning, 7-0 decision versus Seattle University on Apr. 10, 2001.
