Flem and Quint receive GNAC weekly honors
April 19, 2010
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University's Meghan Flem and Erika Quint have been named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Softball co-Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for Apr. 12-18.
A senior from Hood River, Ore. (graduate of Hood River Valley High School), Flem had seven hits in 10 at bats and reached base 10 times in 13 plate appearances as the Vikings split a four-game series with Central Washington, knocking the Wildcats out of first-place in the conference standings.
Flem's three-run homer was the difference in Western's 4-1 win Sunday.
A senior from Silverdale (graduate of Central Kitsap High School), Quint pitched two victories over Central, running her winning streak to six. In 14 innings, she allowed just 12 hits and three runs, two of them earned. A transfer from Olympic CC, Quint walked two and struck out seven.
Flem shared the weekly honor with Saint Martin's Joslyn Eugenio.
The Vikings, 19-19 overall and 15-12 in GNAC play, are at current conference-leader Western Oregon University on Saturday (12 noon) and Sunday (11 a.m.) in a pair of league doubleheaders.
