LACEY, Wash. - Due to the severe thunderstorms and unpredictable weather that hit the Puget Sound region on Thursday, the 2017 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Softball Championships schedule has been altered to extend over the weekend.
No. 2-seed Western Washington opened the tournament with a 5-4 walk-off victory over No. 3-seed Saint Martin's in 10 innings on Thursday afternoon to advance to the winner's bracket. The game featuring No. 1-seed Central Washington and No. 4-seed Western Oregon was halted twice by lightning and ultimately suspended with the Wildcats leading 2-1 in the bottom of the 3rd inning.
The suspended game is now set to begin no earlier than 3 pm on Friday (due to field conditions) and the rest of the tournament scheduled has been pushed back one day.
WWU is now scheduled to play the winner of the CWU-WOU game at 10 am on Saturday.
The remainder of the championships schedule will be moved back an entire day and is as follows...
Saturday, May 6:
Game 3: Western Washington vs. Central Washington/Western Oregon winner, 10 am
Game 4: Saint Martin's vs. Central Washington/Western Oregon loser, 12:30 pm
Game 5: Winner of Game 4 vs. Loser Game 3, 3 pm
Sunday, May 7:
Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 5, 12 pm
Winner Game 6 vs. Loser Game 6 (if necessary), 2:30 pm
