Vikings sign Olympic CC pitcher Erika Quint
June 3, 2009
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University softball coach Lonnie Hicks announced today that Erika Quint, a sophomore pitcher at Olympic Community College, has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Vikings beginning this fall. "Erika is a tremendous competitor, who will add talent and depth to our pitching staff," said Hicks. "She throws in the low 60s, with great movement and has the ability to change speeds and pitch ahead in the count." Quint is the younger sister of former Viking standout Jackie Quint, who set school career records for wins (48), complete games (68), innings pitched (601-1/3) and strikeouts (478) from 2004 to 2007. "Jackie was one of the premier pitchers in school history, but there is no doubt that Erika is talented enough to carve out her own legacy at Western," Hicks said. "Like Jackie, she sets herself apart with her work ethic, determination and a strong desire to be her best." The 5-foot-3, right-handed Quint finished her OCC career with a school-record 30 wins. As a freshman, she was named NWAACC Northern Region Pitcher of the Year, posting a 16-7 record with a 1.57 earned run average and 173 strikeouts. Quint helped the Rangers place third at the NWAACC post-season tournament as a freshman and fourth as a sophomore, earning a spot on the all-tournament team both seasons. A two-time NWAACC Northern Region all-star, she pitched two no-hitters at OCC, one a perfect game. Quint is a graduate of Central Kitsap High School where she earned Seattle Times all-State honorable mention as a senior and was a three-time all-Narrows League pick.
