Emily Boerger (Sr., Marysville/Marysville-Pilchuck) had 10 kills and a match-high six block assists and Kayla Erickson (Jr., Gig Harbor/Peninsula) added a match-high 11 kills as Western Washington University swept Central Washington University 25-17, 25-16, 25-11, on Saturday in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match at Sam Carver Gymnasium on the WWU campus.
The Vikings, ranked No.9 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association/NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, improved to 11-1 overall and 4-0 in league action with their fourth straight win. The sweep was their 10th of the season.
Central fell to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play. The Wildcats have lost six of their last eight matches following a 4-2 start.
WWU libero Samantha Hutchinson (Jr., University Place/Curtis) had 22 digs, setter Taylor Dillard (Jr., Milton/Fife) 35 assists and Jennica McPherson (So., Seattle/Kennedy) three service aces. All were match bests.
Leading by three points, 16-13, in game one, WWU closed with a 9-4 run, McPherson and Rachel Roeder (So., Sammamish/Issaquah) each having two kills during that span.
In game two, the Vikings again led by three, 14-11, before finishing with an 11-5 run as Erickson and Boerger had three kills each in the burst. The two middle blockers entered the match ranked one-two nationally in attack percentage. Erickson hit .526 and Boerger .500 in the match.
WWU closed out the contest by getting off to a 10-2 lead in game three and never looking back.
The Vikings next travel to Saint Martin's on Thursday, Oct. 10 (7 p.m.), for a GNAC counter.
