Kayla Erickson (Jr., Gig Harbor) had match highs of 13 kills and six blocks and Kelsey Moore (Jr., Bellevue/Newport) added 11 kills as nationally ranked Western Washington University returned to its winning ways by sweeping Montana State University Billings, 25-10, 25-19, 25-18, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Sam Carver Gymnasium on the WWU campus.
The Vikings, ranked No.8 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association/NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, snapped a two-match losing streak while improving to 15-3 overall and 8-2 in GNAC play.
MSUB suffered its seventh straight loss, falling to 3-16 overall and 1-10 in conference action. The Yellowjackets were led by Stormy Siemion with 10 kills and 11 digs.
The Vikings built an 18-6 lead in game one with an 8-1 run that featured four kills by Erickson. They also had a 20-13 advantage in game two and never trailed in game three, going out to a 15-5 lead.
WWU's Samantha Hutchinson (Jr., University Place/Curtis) and Bryce Larson (R-Fr., Mukilteo/Kamiak) had 18 and 12 digs, respectively.
Emily Boerger (Sr., Marysville/Marysville-Pilchuck) had eight kills for the Vikings, Jennica McPherson (So., Seattle/Kennedy) seven and Rachel Roeder (So., Sammamish/Issaquah) six. Setter Taylor Dillard (Jr., Milton/Fife) added 42 assists, five block assists and five digs.
WWU, which outhit the Yellowjackets .315 to .119, has never lost to MSUB in 16 series meetings.
The Vikings travel to Central Washington on Thursday, Oct.31 (7 p.m.), for a GNAC contest.
