BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University middle blocker Kayla Erickson has been named the Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 2-7.

Erickson, a junior from Gig Harbor (graduate of Peninsula High School), had 50 kills with an attack percentage of .524 and 15 blocks, all team highs, in helping the Vikings to sweeps of all four of their matches last weekend at the Western Oregon Invitational. Those wins came over Cal State East Bay, Holy Names, Minnesota State Mankato and Metro State.

In the four matches, WWU outhit the opposition .390 to .120.

It is the first time in the 13-year history of the GNAC that a volleyball team started a season with four consecutive 3-0 victories against NCAA Division II competition.

The Vikings are at the Sonoma State Seawolf Spike Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
