BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Earning the honor for the second straight week, Western Washington University outside hitter Marlayna Geary has been named Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 2-8. Picked as the GNAC's Defensive POW was Vikings' libero Samantha Hutchinson. Geary, a senior from Tacoma (graduate of Bellarmine High School), had a tourney-best 76 kills and a .314 attack percentage and also had 40 digs and a trio of double-doubles in leading the Vikings to a 3-1 record and a share of the tournament title at the Sonoma State Seawolf Spike Invitational. The performance earned Geary tourney MVP honors. Hutchinson, a sophomore from University Place (graduate of Curtis High School), had a tourney-high 99 digs, an average of 6.19 per set, as she received all-tournament honors. The GNAC weekly award was the sixth for Geary during her four-year career.
