WWU's Kayla Erickson is GNAC Offensive Player of the Week

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University middle blocker Kayla Erickson has been named the Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 23-29. Erickson, a sophomore from Gig Harbor (graduate of Peninsula High School), had 24 kills in two victories, both sweeps, including the match winner as the Vikings handed Western Oregon its first conference loss. Erickson, who hit for a .388 percentage, also had five blocks. She had 11 kills and a team-high three blocks against the Wolves. Erickson ranks second among WWU leaders with 200 points this season, having 172 kills and a .387 attack percentage, and a team-best 49 blocks. The Vikings, 12-2 overall and tied for the GNAC lead at 5-1, are on the road for two league matches this week, traveling to Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday, Oct. 4, and to Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, Oct. 6. |
