WWU's Kayla Erickson is GNAC Defensive Player of the Week

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University middle blocker Kayla Erickson has been named the Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 14-20. Erickson, a sophomore from Gig Harbor (graduate of Peninsula High School), had 10 blocks as the Vikings swept Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene in extending their win streak to nine, all 3-0 sweeps. Erickson, who was named GNAC Offensive POW two weeks ago, also had 15 kills and four digs. WWU held its two opponents to a combined hitting percentage of .078. Erickson is second among GNAC leaders in both kill percentage (.358) and blocks (1.06, 69), fifth in points (3.88, 252) and sixth in kills (3.26, 212). The Vikings, 14-2 overall and leading the GNAC at 11-1, are on the road this week, traveling to Western Oregon on Thursday (7 p.m.), Oct. 25, and to Saint Martin's on Saturday (7 p.m.), Oct. 27. |
