BELLINGHAM, Wash. -
Western Washington University middle blocker Emily Boerger has been named a Capital One Academic All-District first-team honoree in District 8 of NCAA Division II in the sport of volleyball.
Boerger, a senior from Marysville (graduate of Marysville-Pilchuck High School), has a 3.89 grade-point average (4.0 scale) as an anthropology and biology major. She now goes on the national ballot and is eligible for Academic All-America honors.
Boerger, a two-time Great Northwest Athletic Conference academic all-star, is averaging 2.23 kills on .350 hitting, second in the GNAC, and 0.98 blocks per game.
Boerger has earned GNAC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season and was named to the Sonoma State all-tournament team.
Nominations and voting for the Capital One Academic All-America program are conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
WWU is 17-3 overall and ranked No.10 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association/NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll.
