BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Western Washington University volleyball team achieved yet another milestone this season as the Vikings moved up to No.3 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association/NCAA Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll announced today.

It is the highest national rating in school history for Western, which had gotten as high as No.4 for four weeks this season.

The Vikings close out their regular season this weekend, entertaining Alaska Anchorage on Friday (7 p.m.) and Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday (7 p.m.) in a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference matches.

Western, 22-1 overall and 16-0 in GNAC play, has won its last 22 matches and its last 52 league contests. Both streaks are school records, and the league-winning string is the fourth longest in NCAA II history.

The Vikings received 770 votes and one first-place vote in the latest AVCA poll. UC San Diego (23-4, 835, 17) remained No.1, and Brigham Young-Hawaii (19-2, 822, 10) is all alone at No.2 after sharing that last week with Cal State San Bernardino (23-4, 707), which fell all the way to No.6.

Barry (22-2, 750, 6) moved up two spots to No.4 and Truman (29-4, 723, 1) stayed at No.5.

Western already has clinched its third straight GNAC title and an automatic berth in the Pacific Regional on Nov. 20-22.
