BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Western Washington University volleyball team climbed one spot to No.2 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association/NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll released today.

The 24-1 Vikings are competing in the NCAA II Pacific Regional this weekend at La Jolla, Calif. Three of the top four teams in the country are participating in that regional tournament, led by host UC San Diego (25-4) which remained No.1 nationally. Cal State San Bernardino (25-4) moved up two spots to No.4.

Another Pacific Region tourney team in the Top 25 is No.18 Hawaii Pacific (15-7).

The No.2 rating is a school best for 24-1 Western, which meets the winner of Thursday's Cal State San Bernardino vs. Seattle University (17-8) match in a semifinal Friday at 5 p.m. UC San Diego plays the winner of Thursday's other first-round match between Cal State Bakersfield (20-7) and Hawaii Pacific on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The semifinal winners advance to the title match Saturday at 7 p.m., with a berth in the NCAA II Elite Eight on the line.

Western, which is making its third straight regional appearance, has won its last 24 matches, a school record, after losing to UC San Diego in its season opener at the Cal State San Bernardino Coyote Classic. The Vikings swept through the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with an 18-0 record for the third straight year, their 54-match conference winning streak being the fourth longest in NCAA II history.

** The AVCA does not recognize any rankings below 25 in the poll as it is not possible when voters only select the top 25 teams and only teams with two or more votes are listed. It would be accurate and logical to instead say "listed" instead of "ranked" in the poll for spots below 25.
