BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University outside hitter Marlayna Geary (Sr., Tacoma/Bellarmine Prep) and middle blocker Kayla Erickson (So., Gig Harbor/Peninsula) were first-team picks on the 2012 DaktronicsNCAA Division II West Region All-Star Team.

Selected to the second team was Vikings' libero Samantha Hutchinson (So., University Place/Curtis).

Geary ranks 14th nationally in kills (4.16 avg. per set) and 15th in points (4.76). Earlier, she was named a first-team AVCA West Region all-star and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Geary, who had a league-leading 17 double-doubles in kills and digs this season, ranks second among school career leaders in kills with 1,328. The school record is 1,379 held by Meghan Evoy (2001-04).

Erickson, a first-team league all-star, ranks among the top 10 GNAC leaders in four statistical categories. She is second in blocks (1.18 avg. per set), third in kill percentage (.352), seventh in points (3.84) and eighth in kills (3.16).

Hutchinson, the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team AVCA all-region pick, ranks fifth nationally in digs (6.35).

WWU, 23-3, earned the No.4 seed in the West Regional and faces Sonoma State in an opening-round match Thursday (5 p.m. HT), Nov. 29, at Laie, Hawaii. The Vikings won the GNAC championship with a 16-2 ledger.
